The Eldon’s are like family to Invisible Children. Not only because Kathy Eldon and Amy Eldon Turteltaub spoke at the 2013 Fourth Estate Leadership Summit, but because Invisible Children exists as an organization only because of the Eldon’s: Dan Eldon, specifically. Dan Eldon was a young artist, activist, and adventurer committed to documenting the horrific famine in Somalia in 1993 before he was tragically killed during a bombing. It was because of Dan’s life and legacy that Invisible Children co-founder Jason Russell was inspired to travel to Uganda for the first time in 2003, armed with only a camera and a desire for story—just like Dan Eldon before him.

Dan’s mother, Kathy, is releasing a memoir called “In the Heart of Life” this month, and it is a book that, in her own words, is “disruptive.”

“Disruption maybe has a bad rap, but it’s to stir things up, to shake things up.”

And that’s exactly what Kathy does in her book that is equal parts African adventure, metaphysical mystery, passionate love story, and family saga. In the promo video below, it’s impossible not to be charmed and inspired by this vivacious woman.

For a woman whose family has had such a massive impact on Invisible Children, you can bet we’ll be reading it. The book will be available September 24, 2013 on Amazon.com.
