mixtape

WELCOME. October has proven to be quite hectic, right? I blinked and it’s almost Halloween. With how fast the end of this year is going, it’s easy to neglect what’s happening in the music world. We hope this new mixtape serves as a catch-up – A Now! That’s What I Call Music: October type deal.

Stream the mix below or launch all of our mixes via our Soundcloud page.

01. THE WOMBATS – “Your Body Is A Weapon” :: High school me had such a huge obsession with The Wombats as soon as “Moving To New York” came out. They’re back with this new single, and I’m feeling VERY nostalgic about this track.

02. MT WARNING – “Youth Birds” :: I discovered MT Warning while listening to Zane Lowe (of radio and Kanye interview fame). I love “the vibe” on this song.

03. KATY B – “Crying For No Reason” (Live) :: Katy B has slowly become a huge obsession of mine. This new track is straight up beauty. New karaoke song?

04. COSMO F/ FLORENCE WELCH – “Midnight” :: This solo project from a member of The Maccabees is incredible, and this track with Florence is definitely a highlight. Quite edgy, yeah?

05. DENAI MOORE – “The Lake” :: Everything Denai releases is ideal. This track produced by one of my favorites – Ben Drew – is perfect.

06. ACTIVE CHILD F/ ELLIE GOULDING – “Silhouette” :: Pure beauty. This makes me want to have emotions.

07. VERONICA FALLS – “Nobody There” :: Kind of a retro feel on this one, and I’m into it. Great driving tune.

08. MAGIC ISLAND – “Baby Blu” :: Minimal and gorgeous. Magic Island is definitely on our radar for one to watch. There’s something really beautiful about how naive this song is.

09. NAOMI PILGRIM – “No Gun” :: If Robyn recorded in the Caribbean, this is what it would sound like. I’m quite intrigued by what Naomi Pilgrim is going to do next.

10. BEST COAST – “Fade Away” :: I’ve been a Best Coast fan since the beginning. This new EP is the perfect progression and perfection of their sound.

11. ERIK HASSLE – “Talk About It” :: Erik is genuinely the most underrated voice in pop music. His albums have been FILLED with classics. I’m so happy to have him back in the music game.

12. SAY LOU LOU – “Better In The Dark” :: Speaking of pop classics… Everything coming from the Say Lou Lou camp sounds like the better parts of pop music from the early noughties. I thought it would be difficult for them to top the brilliance of “Julian,” but they did.

13. DUSTIN TEBBUTT – “Where I Find You” :: We’re closing out this week’s MMM with a track from one of the most hauntingly impressive debut EPs of 2013. Australia’s Dustin Tebbutt has some serious Bon Iver vibes that we are very gratefully accepting. If you need a perfect soundtrack to fall, his EP The Breach just dropped on iTunes.
