The seamstresses at Mend have been engaging in an emotional literacy lessons called Knowledge of Behavior and Self (KOBS).

KOBS is intended to empower the ladies with a better understanding of themselves and their relationships with others.

Since all of the women at Mend were affected by the LRA conflict during their adolescence and early adulthood – a pivotal time for personal growth and development – KOBS fills that gap by providing a safe space for discussing personalities, values and relationships.

Kobs1We caught up with the seamstresses during a lesson that focused on identifying good and bad personal qualities.

A survey the ladies filled out as part of their recent KOBS training.

“With this class, it has enabled me to improve the qualities that I had before,” Amono Lily said. “I am a talkative person who talks straight to people. But such a quality can sometimes create more enemies so I have tried to reduce on that.”

The women discussed positive qualities for a person to have, characteristics of their own personalities and areas where they each can improve. The women also identified positive qualities of their peers.

Ultimately, this will offer the seamstresses the opportunity to learn the life lessons they missed during the war and support healthier relationships with themselves, their peers and their families.
