We’ve been keeping tabs on our Warped Tour Roadies as they travel across the country and spread the word about Invisible Children. They’ve met some incredible bands and Invisible Children supporters, and we love hearing their stories.

Last week, the tour stopped near San Diego, so a few of our interns drove over to volunteer at their tent. Emily Jaumillot, engagement intern and long-time Warped Tour fan, shared some highlights with us:

Why did you volunteer?

I love the atmosphere and community that Warped Tour creates. Warped is a special place where music brings everyone together. I have loved it for long time, and it was such an honor to be a part of this collaboration between music and social justice.

Any funny stories you would like to share?

Brian Logan Dales of The Summer Set did a signing at the Invisible Children tent, and supporters could get a ticket by donating to Invisible Children (we also had some people buy a Legendary key, which was so awesome). While my fellow intern Amy and I were holding up signs and spreading the word about his signing, Brian asked to take a picture with us! He was so cool and so passionate about Invisible Children. It was awesome to have the chance to meet him – that was a cool part of my day.

What was the best part about volunteering?

The last part of the day, Amy and I walked around the entire venue with a sign advertising free hugs. After we gave people free hugs, we went through our spiel about Invisible Children and explained the story behind the reed bracelets we were selling. That way we could spread awareness about Invisible Children and fundraise at the same time. We met so many different people and gave so many hugs. Some people didn’t even want a bracelet, but they ended up donating anyway. That kindness was really touching for us to experience. We talked to a variety of people, some who were familiar with Invisible Children, some who knew a little about us, and some who hadn’t heard of us before. It was awesome to witness so many different personalities of Warped Tour and to represent Invisible Children in the process.
