This week marks the 5-year anniversary of Nate Henn’s passing. He and 75 others were killed by a terror bombing in Kampala, Uganda as they watched the final match of the 2010 World Cup.
As I write this blog it’s hard for me to believe that I never had the honor of meeting Nate in person because his story has had such a profound and lasting impact on my life. It was soon after his passing that I first saw Invisible Children’s film TONY. This film and Nate’s legacy, inspired me to quit my safe (and boring) desk job, to follow in Nate’s footsteps as a Roadie for Invisible Children.
On my first tour, I had the privilege of sharing TONY, the same film that inspired me, with audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest. And now, almost 5 years later, my “Roadie adventure” that was only supposed to last a few months, has turned into a lifelong commitment to justice and human rights, that has changed the course of my life forever.
I still think of Nate often and despite having seen the film more than 100 times while on tour, I’ll rewatch it whenever I need to be reinfused with inspiration from the dedication and sacrifice of those who came before me — like Nate, Tony, Innocent and Laren.
Now, I’m so excited that our friends at The Giving Keys have partnered with Koji to create a “PEACEMAKER” key inspired by Nate that I can wear every day as a reminder of the impact he’s had on my life.
You should read this this beautiful blog that Koji wrote for The Giving Keys about how Nate inspired this key and hear some of his songs that are dedicated in Nate’s memory.
You can purchase the limited edition PEACEMAKER Key here. 15% of the proceeds will go to supporting the Invisible Children’s programs that Nate loved and dedicated the final year and a half of his life to supporting.
You can also donate directly to the Nate Henn Fund.
Blessed are the peacemakers.
