International Justice Mission (IJM) is a non-profit human rights organization that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. They seek to make public justice systems work for victims of abuse and oppression who urgently need the protection of the law.

With already 15 field offices operating in countries all over the world, IJM just opened the doors to their newest field office in Gulu, Uganda. Their 16th field office – the organization’s second in Uganda – will protect and defend widows and orphans in Northern Uganda from the theft of their homes and property.

“The need in Northern Uganda is urgent: Because of terror and chaos caused by a rebel group called the Lord’s Resistance Army and its leader Joseph Kony, millions of people were forced to flee their homes. Now that Kony has fled, these families are ready to return home from temporary camps where they sought shelter. But for many this is impossible. They are discovering that their homes have been stolen by more powerful neighbors — neighbors who threaten violence.

Now that we are on the ground in Gulu, IJM will protect families who desperately need a defender. We will make sure the widows and orphans get their homes back, so they have a place to make a life and land to cultivate a future.”

We are grateful and inspired by organizations like IJM who allow victims of oppression to restore their lives, their liberty, their dignity, and the fruits of their labor. Congrats on the big 1-6!
