Nashville band Wild Cub are fixing to bring their kinetic live show to San Diego, and we’re pleased to announce we’ll be partnering with them and Soda Bar for a show on August 1.

They’ll be cruising through San Diego before they take the stage at Chicago’s Lollapalooza. Rare Times and The Kabbs will be joining the bill for the show, and we’ll be bringing out our staff in droves. You should come.

We e-mailed lead vocalist Keegan Dewitt to chat about their live show, adjectives and his work on an Academy Award winning film.

From some minor online stalking of you, you’ve lived a lot of places. Where is the most inspirational place you’ve resided?

Before we recorded Youth, I spent about a month or so in Paris writing, and that was really amazing. Mainly because I could remove myself from my daily routine, I spent less time talking every day and I could really step back and approach things freshly. There were a lot of lyrics that started there.

You’ve been playing gigs with some serious world-class talent. Who’s been the best artist to share a bill with?

We did a string of dates with Sondre Lerche, who we were all really big fans of. We had each listened to him for a long time and met him at first on the Daytrotter Barnstormer tour. We were quick friends and got a chance to head back out for a week or so. Amazing to get a chance to see him every night, not only because of his amazing show, but because he takes such time and focus for his songs. You can learn a lot just by watching that every night for a week.

You won an Academy Award this year for your work on the short documentary Inocente. What was it like working on such a heavy film? And the obvious question – where do you keep your Oscar?

Well, it’s a bit more complicated than that haha. Our project overall won the award, and mainly the directors, so I trust they’ve stored their award somewhere special. For me, I mainly just get to end arguments by insisting that I’m a “tangentially award-winning film composer.”

We’ve loved working with you at SXSW and everything beyond, and we’re always humbled when artists we love are so supportive of our cause. What is it about Invisible Children that makes you so involved?

I think it’s always valuable to empower younger people toward activism. Connecting young people to other driven young people can be a powerful thing and Invisible Children does that in a terrific, organic way. Being part of the IC party at SXSW was special because it was an entire afternoon filled with passionate, kind and thoughtful people, all brought together around a main cause. From the crew at IC to the The Very Best, it was amazing to be surrounded by such present and real people.

We have a nice announcement about a show we’re going to be doing with you all this August. Describe your live show in five adjectives starting with the letter “b.”

It is amazing that you can actually Google “adjectives starting with B.” I’ll give you five of my favorite and just HOPE they can be found somewhere in our live show.

  1. Babylonian
  2. Believable
  3. Bawdy
  4. Bejeweled
  5. (Hopefully not) Balding

What’s next for you and what’s next for Wild Cub?

We have a brand new single slated for late July which will be followed by a video and some remixes. We are really excited about that. During July and August we will be on a full US summer tour with some stops up in Canada. We will also be hitting Lollapalooza in the middle of that. Can’t wait!
